Mataranka

Mataranka is a lovely spot about an hours drive South of Katherine. We had heard it was a lovely spot with thermal pools so we stayed there for a couple of nights. The thermal pool we went to was called Bitter Springs and was in a natural bush setting, there is another one called Rainbow Springs which is bigger and has concrete steps leading down to it. The Bitter Springs has a gentle current which takes you the length of the spring and then you can walk back and do it all over again. The temperature was about 34C and the pool was surrounded with lush green palms so lovely and relaxing. The caravan park we stayed at was a friendly park although the site was a bit dusty. The first night we had a lovely roast pork at the bistro under the stars for $15 each. They also had lovely horses, peacocks and birds, you could also see the Barramundi being hand fed in the billabong. It was good to rest up and relax for a few days, the weather was beautiful.
